  1. What to Look for in a Personal Trainer

With a new year coming up, a common resolution might be bubbling around in the back of your mind – to hire a personal trainer.

We think that’s great. (Obviously!) This might be the perfect time to engage someone with the expertise and the caring to help you reach your goals. Give us a call or come see if. We’re happy to help you find the right person for your training, even if it’s to help you work out at home in person or virtually.

When you meet a trainer you are considering, he or she should ask you these kinds of questions:

    • What are your goals?
    • What’s your exercise history?
    • Do you have any injuries, physical limitations, or medical conditions?
    • Have you ever had a joint replacement?
    • Have you discussed fitness with your physician?

You might want to ask if he or she is certified by one of the main training organizations, like the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) or the American Council on Exercise (ACE).

Also, does he or she have other experience or certifications in working with people over 50, like through the Functional Aging Institute? Or does the trainer have expertise working with people with health issues like yours, like a major surgery?

And – this is important – do you like this person? Can you see yourself enjoying time with him or her or interacting via computer for virtual training?
