  1. Jan Shipman West; A Client Success Story

    On November 20th, 2019, my husband and my best friend died. He had been sick for a very long time and on hospice at home for about nine months. Even though I knew he was terminal, when he died, I was thrown for a loop.

    After the funeral and after all of my family and friends left, I went to bed and stayed there. I was so sad and tired and lonely. He was gone.

    Around Christmas, I saw an ad on Facebook about an exercise class for men and women 50 years and older. This ad was for Your Personal Best training studio.

    Why did I need to interview for a gym?

    I called and went in for an interview. That sparked my interest. Why did I need to interview for a gym? But it is not a gym; it is more of a club that trains together. There are many classes throughout the day with one trainer and a small group of trainees.

    I interviewed with Juan. He is one of the trainers, and he explained to me about the company. I signed up for a three-week trial class. This trial class allows you to see just how it works and if you are a good fit for your group and if they fit your needs.

    When I started exercising with this group, I could not do anything. I was weak. Juan was very understanding and took special attention to me and my needs. The other ladies in the class encouraged me. They never made me feel like I was not as fit as they were—just the opposite.

    Balance; the key to growing older healthily

    Little by little, I became stronger and more sure of myself. But besides that, I have developed a great sense of balance. That is what I think is key to growing older but staying healthy. I had noticed that while I was aging, I was losing my natural ability to balance myself. Well, I am stronger now, and I have never had this ability to balance since I was very much younger. We work on balance in this class just as much as lifting weights and cardio. It is an excellent combination of exercises.

    Now, I have been going to this class 3 days a week for nine months. It has changed my life. Not only do they train you in an exercise program, but they help you with things like diet and your overall wellbeing.

    I have lost 23 pounds and gained muscle, tone, and strength. My overall health has improved, and my outlook on life has changed for the better. I have become friends with the staff and the ladies with whom I exercise.

    I look forward to going to class every day.
