For Steve Broughton, 73, exercise is a defense strategy.
In January, Steve was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. While the news followed years of managing Meniere’s disease, it sharpened his focus on long-term health: maintaining strength, balance, and independence.
At YPB Training Studio, we see this often — when the goal becomes not just fitness, but protecting quality of life.
Steve refocused his routine with strength training, cardio, and balance work… and it made a real difference.
“I can feel the difference in my strength and my ability to balance myself,” Steve shares. “I want to make sure I continue to build muscle, so I don’t lose anything to Parkinson’s.”
He now trains three days a week with a structured plan tailored to his needs — including balance and depth perception challenges — while still being part of a supportive small group environment.
And outside the gym, he’s still showing up strong.
From playing on two softball teams to keeping up with his four-year-old granddaughter, Steve is living proof that staying active helps you keep doing what you love.
He’s also lost 75 pounds over the last two years — and isn’t slowing down.
“The best thing is to keep yourself in the best shape you can to fight it off physically,” Steve says. “I just lucked out and found the right gym.”
Stories like Steve’s are exactly why we focus on strength, mobility, and consistency — especially for adults over 50.
Because the goal isn’t just to exercise…
It’s to stay capable, confident, and independent for years to come.Start with our 21-Day Mobility and Strength Program.
