Now … Efforts Divided
On August 28th, 18 Texas counties received a federal disaster declaration including Nueces where resides my own home in Corpus Christi. John and I received manageable damage and we are counting our blessings as we help family in nearby Rockport.
Money and manpower are currently needed the most and on top of that I am going to ask you to help me fund something else even while the timing seems poor.
Before the Hurricane ….
I committed my training studio, to two community causes that are near and dear to my heart. The first is the American Heart Association’s 2017 Corpus Christi Heart Walk on October 7th from Whataburger Field.
Heart disease is our nation’s #1 killer, causing 40.6% of all deaths – more than the next four leading causes of death combined. Stroke is our nation’s #5 killer and the leading cause of serious, long term disability.
- Nearly 50,000 Texans die from cardiovascular disease and stroke each year
- Nearly 2 million Texans suffer from cardiovascular disease.
We must improve the number of people who understand the link between their overall health and their risk of heart disease and stroke.
Opportunities for Involvement
1. Participate with Your Personal Best and Walk with our Team
I’m looking for 20 participants who are willing to donate at least $50 each to help reach our pledge of $1,000 that I made months ago. The walk is a 5k and I wouldn’t be a good coach if I didn’t supply you with a walking plan. Get yours here
Michelle is designing a very cool YPB t-shirt that we will wear as a team and the first 20 to donate $50 + will receive their shirt, registration fee, etc. … for FREE.
JOIN Team YPB here and donate TODAY! http://www2.heart.org/goto/YPBTrainingStudio
SUPPORT the Team YPB with your donation! http://www2.heart.org/goto/YPBTrainingStudio
2. Personally Fund me in our City-Wide Executive Challenge
Are you one of my out of town friends, family or past client?
As a Coastal Bend Executive leader, I set a personal (modest) goal to raise $500 and help set the pace for giving in our area. I have my own fundraising webpage for Heart Walk where you can quickly and easily make a secure online donation. You can also use this donation as a tax deduction.
Please help me by donating today. http://www2.heart.org/goto/YPBTrainingStudio
Thank you in advance for your donation and support!
There’s MORE …
On that same Saturday from a different location, MyTeamTriumph: Wings of Texas is proud to announce their Third Annual 5k Run/2 Mile Walk will be held on October 7, 2017 at Cole Park. This event is their largest fundraiser and is a fantastic opportunity to spread their mission of inclusion for persons with disabilities across the Coastal Bend.
I am business partnering with them as a sponsor and one of our clients, Mary Joe Cranny usually rolls with us and captains our chair. YPB Angels include Jerry Simpson, Carol Stockseth, Amy Fisher, Juan Guerrero and myself.
If you’re not familiar with them: Wings of Texas is an organization that pairs persons with disabilities (‘Captains’) and volunteer runners (‘Angels’) for distance running and endurance events. The teams have competed in local charity runs, sprint triathlons, multi-day running relays, and nationally recognized marathons.
With each mile run, and every Captain’s smile, they show that a disability shouldn’t limit a person’s ability to have fun. This is the mission that your sponsorship and/or participation will be supporting: “We would like to share the joy of crossing the finish line with as many disABLED Texans as possible.”
A program like theirs is expensive to run – by providing the adaptive wheelchairs used at races ($800 to $3500 per chair depending on the design and function of the chair), logistical support (transport of the chairs, insurance, etc.), and financial assistance to Captains who are participating in out-of-town, destination races. For some of the Captains, traveling to a race is the first time they’ve ever left the Corpus Christi area.
By offsetting the costs of holding this race, your tax deductible donation to their 501(c)3 will allow the racers’ entry fees to go directly towards the cost of providing those sort of life changing opportunities to our Captains and their Angels.
Here you will find your opportunities for sponsorship. Decide which is best for you and respond with your commitment at your earliest convenience. If you have any questions or need any additional information, please don’t hesitate to contact their sponsorship coordinator, Thomas Cronnon, at 361-737-6014 or at tcronnon@myteamtriumph.org.
