  1. How One Client is Going to Stay Fit for the Holidays

The holidays are upon us! It’s that time of year again when people tend to have the least amount of energy, overeat and gain the most body fat.

Who is your support group to help you remove as many excuses as possible toward getting through the holiday healthily? We all need support, motivation and most of all, workouts that are effective and only 30min long!

At 57, Carla Villarreal is committed to her fitness and loves working out in a small group of like-minded peers.

“It’s so easy to talk yourself out of working out but it’s not easy to talk yourself out of working out thirty minutes.” – Carla V.
Carla has a lot of energy, always positive, and has grown to love the people who exercise with her. The results she has gained since having found her exercise groove have been HUGE to her confidence as well.

“I’ve noticed a lot of firming up, my energy level is higher, and I’m not running short of breath.”
The truth is, you can get great results in just 30 min and have fun while doing it. We know that during the holidays it’s challenging to stay active and that getting in, getting it done is essential to you so that you can quickly go on about your day. It’s that simple!

Hear Carla’s full testimonial here –

The majority of the people like to wait until the start of the New Year to get started on a fitness program.  You should start now, and you know this is true.

Didn’t you wait until after the holidays last year and now it’s already November? Just saying what you don’t want to hear because it’s the truth for many.

Ask your most fit friend their opinion of when you should get started, and they will say, “The day you start!” You don’t have to take it from us, many of you reading this don’t live in our area anyway.

Take it from Carla, a real-life person looking to move better, feel better and have more not less energy for the holidays.

“It can help you physically, mentally, and I encourage all my friends and family to just at least give it a try because it will help you.”

  2. GREAT Results While Having a GREAT Workout!

At 64, Kathy Rios has four kids and eight grandchildren!  That alone is a huge accomplishment, but it is just one of the AMAZING things that we love about Kathy.

Kathy is helpful to everyone, active in the community, very positive, and always brings high energy into her small functional group training sessions in the morning.
    Why Kathy LOVES YPB….

“It’s an inclusive program, where you become a part of a community, you’re with a group that cares about you, and I love my connection with Your Personal Best.”  -Kathy Rios, 64

As Functional Aging Specialists, we have the best certifications! We pay attention to detail and love working with people above the age of 50!  We make it fun! And we take people’s specific needs and personalities into consideration. We also work on all aspects of functional longevity and do not just put you through a generic exercise routine.

The small group training sessions are an excellent way for you to be around people with the same mindset and goals that you have.

When we go over your initial evaluation and consultation, we ask questions that the average trainer wouldn’t ask.

    • What are your goals?
    • Do you have injuries, physical limitations, or medical conditions?
    • Have you had a joint replacement or surgeries?
    • Have you discussed fitness with your physician?

Next, these questions are for us to know you better and see how we can help you move better, feel better, and age actively.

    Kathy’s Success

Kathy has not only lost body fat, but she has gained muscle, lost inches around her waist, and feels much better overall then when she first started.  The best thing about her exercising is not something that anyone can see, but it’s something she can feel.

Kathy has reduced her blood pressure medication, and both she and her doctor are thrilled about that.  She works hard, is dedicated, and likes to see the results from the effort she puts into her workouts.

“I feel so much better, and I know that this is going to be a lifestyle I’m going to stick with.”

  3. Client Fitness Success

At Your Personal Best, we not only help people over 50 years old to move better, feel better and age actively but we also have a number of clients who have experienced career changes because of us! Meet Jerry Simpson who along with a couple of sisters, his niece and mom who have all been clients of ours at one time or another since 2013.

Jerry was tired of “Big Box Gyms” and decided that he needed something different. He needed something that would cater to his needs and better understand the aging body. Then he met Lisa Wright, the owner of YPB out and about in the cycling community of Corpus Christi.

“I tried the big box gyms.  I found them to be very impersonal.  The workouts were lacking and it just wasn’t giving me the results that I wanted out of a gym.”

Once Jerry gave us a try, he fell in love with how personalized and unique the workouts are and with the culture in our studio in general.  Instead of just being another body working out at a gym, he actually feels that he belongs to a community where the trainers care for you, the clients hold you accountable and miss you when you aren’t there, and everyone contributes to the friendly atmosphere.

One of the biggest changes we made in Jerry’s fitness life is introducing shorter workouts to him.  People believe that you have to spend hours at the gym in order to get the results you want but with the over 50 population, we’ve proved that all wrong.

“The 30 minute workouts are incredible.  I can’t say enough about how much work can get done in just 30 minutes.  Give it them a try for three weeks of three workouts a week before you make that decision not to do the best thing that you ever could do for yourself”

As a result of Jerry’s fitness success, he has gone a step further to become a Certified Personal Trainer and Functional Aging Specialist. He will be sharing his own experience working with an active and mature population who want to live their long life well!

Ageless Fitness is coming to Portland, TX in July 2018, under Jerry’s entrepreneurship, and we are expecting big things of him in that community.  If you’d like more information or would like to join his fitness community in Portland, you may email him at jerry@agelessfitnessportland.com

  4. Diary of a Successful Client!

Valerie is one of our extraordinary clients because of her mind set, determination and discipline. I honestly could not let another month go by without sharing some of her Facebook posts with you.

In her mid-50’s with physical complications that had caused considerable weight gain, she had had enough and took us up on a special offer to give us a try.

Valerie gave me permission to share her private posts with you from a couple of our Facebook challenge groups in hopes that it will motivate you or someone you love.

    New Year’s 6-Week Transformation Challenge

1/25- “Getting my walk on at La Palmera Mall!”

1/28 – “Stuck to the diet exactly and drank over 100 Oz. of water daily! Food was totally amazing! I’m feeling great! Bring on week 2!!!!”

2/7- “I don’t have an outfit to fit into as I have been big for years but I DO have clothes that are getting too big for me so that’s just as good. I do think it would be good to get something I really like in the size I would like to be and work towards it.

Oh, and those clothes I can’t wear anymore I’m getting rid of. Why keep them? I’m not looking back.”

2/8- “I love the Olympics! I am keeping my water by my side and going to bring some hand weights in the living room to work out with while watching.”

2/9- “Well, week three weigh in was interesting. My weight was the exact same as last week but I did lose 1.7 lbs. of body fat which was encouraging … I am OK with the results. Bring on week four!”

2/11- (to another struggling client in her challenge group) “… I trust you are feeling better. There will always be setbacks but we just gotta get up and get back headed the right direction. You got this!”

“Well, week three ends tonight. My win was I lost body fat.  I stuck by the book on eating and work outs. I walk three other days of the week but going to try and find time this next week to work out on the three days that I walk as well.  Bring on week 4!”

2/28- “Was expecting better results for myself but I have two more weeks to get something done. Congrats to everyone! Keep working hard and keep your chin up. I plan on it!”

    2/23- “A pictures worth a thousand words!”

“My weekly win was I was able to get into a dress one size smaller! Whoop! Whoop!”

2/26 “This big guy motivates me every time I walk by him on my walks at the mall. Lol!”

2/28- “Doing my best and trusting God for the rest!”

3/2- “Wasn’t going to post a win for the week cause I didn’t feel I had one. Missed one workout because of some tests on my kidneys. Missed three meals as well because of it.

Gained weight and fat as well but I changed my mind. I just finished mowing the front lawn at a fast non-stop pace and am not winded in the least. Yay me!”

“Seriously though, everyone who participated is a winner. Took a lot of discipline and a lot of effort to get out there and go the extra mile and plan all those delicious meals. So cheers to you all! See you at the next challenge!”

YPB Little Black Dress Project (Now in Progress)

4/8- “My goals for this next challenge are …

#1 to lose body fat. This is one of the areas I was not at all successful with at the last challenge and I’m not too sure how measurable or smart of this kind of loss would be but let’s say 3-5 lbs.

#2 I want to lose weight but in a way that is healthy I think ten pounds is attainable with a lot of hard work put into it.

#3 I would like to see some inches off my waist upper arms and thighs. I’m not sure what a reasonable or realistic goal would be for me on this one but an inch would be nice …

I would also like to see some much needed strength in my arms to where I can do more than two or three push-ups. It’s important to see progress of any kind honestly. It’s a motivating factor to me knowing that I can achieve just about anything with some hard work. I am sticking by the book and going to work extra hard to reach these goals.”

    Her Exercise Routine

Valerie walks four miles on three days of the week (often at La Palmera Mall)

When she’s not doing functional fitness workouts at our studio you might find her doing some personal 30 day challenges at home that she’s added to her routine besides walking.

“I know I will feel much better when these six weeks are up and be motivated to do more. Any great work takes time and I’m just one of the works in progress.

Thank You Lisa for all your time and investment in us.”

P.S. 4/12- “Lying on the couch watching my hubby eat a bowl of chocolate peanut butter cookie dough ice cream (chocolate and peanut butter being two of my favorites) and he finally looks up at me walks over and gets a spoon full of ice cream as to give it to me and I’m like no thank you I’m fine. He says are you sure and I’m like I sure am.  Go me!

Oh, by the way I didn’t buy the ice cream. I was sick at home and didn’t make it to church but he went to the store and got it himself. Lol! He did get me a couple of apples. ;)”

P.S.S. “It’s all about the journey and the friends you make along the way. That’s why I love these challenges.”

    ~ Valerie

  5. A Former Client Testimonial

Some of you may not know it but we used to train anyone who came our way, young and old. Andrew Mason-Leister spent some time in my studio years ago and has remained a loyal Facebook and newsletter follower ever since.

I received the following testimonial in response to an email that was sent out. Here’s the article again if you forgot what it said. Vacation Proof Your Client

    A Former Client Testimonial

    Andrew

“I messed up horribly a few months ago when I started my dieting and exercise lifestyle change.  When I got to Bagram, Afghanistan and settled into my room I looked in the mirror and decided I should take a picture to look back to when I need some motivation to keep with it when I dont want to go to the gym at 5am or for when I return home. Well, I took the picture and a couple of days later I looked at it and decided it was too gross and embarrassing to look at anymore.  I deleted it.

3 months now into my transformation, using diet and exercise techniques I learned from you some years back, I’ve gotten much stronger and have dropped over 15 pounds of body weight (hopefully mostly fat).  My body looks MUCH better than it did before.  Still needs work but a lot of progress has been made.

The disappointing part of all this is that I can’t look back and tell myself that I don’t want to be “this” fat again because I deleted the picture I took at the beginning of my journey.  I hate that I have nothing to compare to and it makes it more difficult to appreciate the progress that I have made.

Moral of the story, don’t be embarrassed of how you looked like in the past, for that was the motivation for transformation.

Make sure you tell your clients NOT to delete or discard such pictures!

Needless to say I still feel great and feel like I’ve developed a “plan” – lifestyle – that I can stick to when I get back stateside. Thanks again for the lasting impact you’ve had on my family’s health.”

    – Andrew Mason

  6. A Client Success Story

    Bea

I’ve shared Bea’s success story with you in the past and heard from her just last week. She trusted me with her health and fitness and was very motivated by a few simple words.

    In the beginning …

Bea started training at Your Personal Best back in January 2012. As Executive Director of the Corpus Christi Food Bank and working in the “food industry” she’d heard all the do’s and don’ts of nutrition and good health. We discussed an ideal weight for her and she didn’t believe (for reasons of aging) that she could ever weigh what she really wanted to again. What were her culprits?
Bea’s diet included no breakfast, fast food with the occasional salad or soup for lunch, candy or chips for snacks, and a meal with meat, vegetables and a starch. She knew it didn’t sound healthy as she shared this with me.

    Her solution?
With the help of YPB’s Fitness Professionals, Bea began exercising and changing her diet as suggested.
She learned, the missing component was Commitment. She made a healthy pledge to better nutrition choices and daily exercise!

    Amazing results …
Motivated by these simple words, “It doesn’t have to be that way”. Bea began eating breakfast, tossed out the fast food, watched her portions, and traded the unhealthy snacks for something better.

As a result, Bea transformed her body by 6.45%, lost over 9” and a 15 lb. combination of fat loss and muscle gain.

In response to a recent newsletter …
“Yes, I am currently exercising. Cardio 3 days a week and weights 3 days a week. I got my training start with Your Personal Best Training Studio about 3 years ago. I work out with a personal trainer twice a week”. ~ Bea
